The Mina Jo Collection S/S 2018
Project
Design a five-piece collection showcasing the skills learned and acquired over the course of the class.
Background + Inspiration
I designed this collection back in August 2017-April 2018 during my senior year of high school for a class called Fashion Careers through Fairfax Academy. My fellow classmates and I showcased our designs in a student-run fashion show at the end of the year in addition to being featured in a student-produced publication.
My main inspiration came from concerts as well as myself. The energy and atmosphere that being in a room full of people with the same love and admiration for a musician creates is just beautiful. Some of my fondest memories are from the various concerts I have been to. I particularly wanted to represent the lighting and light effects used during these events because together with the music, they set the tone for the night. The collection represents the vibrancy of the lights and is comprised of clothing that is perfect for attending concerts.
Preliminary Sketches + Photoshoot Images
The following are each of the five looks of this collection that I designed, patterned, and sewed myself. I wanted to make garments that could be worn at concerts. With this in mind, I chose to work with breathable fabrics, noticeable colors so the wearer can stand out in their own way, and comfortable designs that allow for dancing and jumping around.
