Initial Brainstorm
Once given the task, my group and I began brainstorming for our collection. We knew right away that we wanted to do a womenswear line catered towards people aged 23-35. The COVID-19 pandemic and first quarantine that occurred in March of 2020 is what we all referenced. We viewed the era coming out of this lockdown as a renaissance and people will begin to be dressing up more often. This was also a time of self reflection and personal growth so these aspects of that is what we wanted our brand to portray.
Aurora
Aurora is founded on the ideas of rebirth, revival, radiance, and sensuality and portraying personal empowerment through our designs. The images we chose to utilize to convey our brand identity include the Birth of Venus, an iconic visual representation of femininity and sexuality, We included the painting titled “ dance around the golden calf” which embodies the spirit of sexual liberation and the expression of happiness. The butterflies symbolize transformation, personal revelation, and growth. These images convey the transformation and self actualization that has come as a result of quarantine and the desire to explore this metamorphosis.
Nova Lux Concept Board
The inspiration for our collection, Nova Lux, is built on exploring how social renaissance will be reflected in special occasion and social nightlife scenes. Our inspiration derives from past decades that have experienced similar zeitgeists, specifically the 1920s, 1940s, and 1970s where the spirit of the times was heavily represented in fashion. We wanted to utilize bold color tones, dramatic patterns and textures, eye-catching silhouettes, and elevated versions of classic looks to revive and build upon. The name of our collection, Nova Lux, translates to new light in Latin, which captures the essence of our collection in bringing new life and feminine empowerment into special occasion wear.
Consumer Profile
Our Muse - Audrey
Meet Audrey, our muse here at Aurora. She is 28, she is the head of a creative team at an up and coming marketing agency, and she lives in a beautiful light-filled apartment in the center of a major city, such as LA or Miami. She makes about $85,000 a year. She is casually dating and has no children, but she is extremely connected on social media as well as with her community offline. She attends a variety of special events for both work and pleasure, and she is always on the go. She values brand transparency, versatility, and uniqueness when it comes to her clothing and she typically shops twice a month at stores like Farfetch and SSense. Audrey is smart, confident, successful and knows exactly what she wants out of life. She is a reflection of where we see ourselves in five years.
